The naming rights of a Scottish football club are being offered to businesses for the first time – and the unique sponsorship opportunity is already attracting the interest of three major global brands.
The team behind the campaign to buy Stirling Albion FC is stepping up efforts to secure the investment required to purchase the club from current club owner Peter McKenzie.
Running alongside its basic ‘BuyStirlingAlbion’ fans trust share offer to everyday supporters, the campaign has also made available the naming rights of the club and its Forthbank Stadium.
There are four independent options for firms keen on offering support:
- The rights for a business to have its name included as part of the official team name, a first for Scottish senior football. This is being offered as a five-season deal at £50,000 per season.
- Similarly, the campaign team hope to attract a firm to buy the naming rights for the club’s Forthbank Stadium at just £25,000 per season.
- Club partner / associate sponsor packages are available for businesses, with two major Stirling firms already signed up.
- And a basic £75 ‘Albion Business Bond’ is also available with numerous club incentives and discounted sponsorship packages available for those companies that show their support. To date over 100 new members have been confirmed on this basis.
Paul Goodwin, who is leading the BuyStirlingAlbion campaign, said: “Given the perilous financial position of the club, we have investigated every possible and innovative avenue that we feel could encourage both individual and corporate participation in the campaign.
“We believe that naming rights to the club and the ground is an attractive and unique proposition to businesses not only in Scotland and the UK but also worldwide, owing much to the huge media attention and exposure that football continues to command.
“It would, however, not come at the cost of the identity of the club and we can assure all Stirling Albion supporters that the club’s name will remain alongside any title sponsor should we reach that stage.
“But above all the message we are sending to the business community is to come and talk to us as we have packages from the naming rights all the way down to basic £75 Business Bonds so we are confident there is a level for all firms interesting in supporting our venture.”
The campaign to buy Stirling Albion, which has already secured support from Soccerade and FIFA World Player of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo, Scottish Footballer of the Year Gary Caldwell, seven times world snooker champion Stephen Hendry and celebrity chefs Nick Nairn and Gordon Ramsay, was launched last month and most recently Andy Murray who’s grandfather played for the club.

The campaign has attracted media and consumer interest from over 90 countries around the world. The campaign was created and managed by Big blue Star and PR strategy development and managed by Wave PR who both gave their services on a pro bono basis. An estimated media value in excess of £3m has already been achieved in the first 7 weeks.
The campaign will continue to run for at least a year and brands will have additional benefits such as the association generated via major PR activities involving our celebrity backers as well as events such as concerts and youth tournaments.
