Lloyds bank faces boycott

Rangers fan groups are threatening to initiate a mass boycott of Lloyds Banking Group if the financial institution causes further financial difficulties for the club, The Guardian reports.

The Scottish side are currently in financial difficulty, with the action highlighting some of the dangers facing sponsors in football.

A collective statement from Rangers Worldwide Alliance, The Rangers Supporters Assembly, Rangers Supporters Trust and Rangers Supporters Association explained that if the actions of the bank threatened the club’s situation further, in any way, members would remove their business from the bank.

Lloyds now oversees the club’s spending and has appointed a representative to the board, Donald Muir, and denies that it is controlling the club.

The statement also prompted Sir David Murray to sell his stake swiftly. Due to the uncertainty over the future of the Rangers, supporters groups believe that ‘it is imperative that a change in ownership is completed now.’
