Barclays extend Premier League sponsorship

Barclays have signed a three-year deal worth £82.25m to sponsor the Premier League for a further three years until 2013.

Barclays have sponsored the Premier League since 2004 and the new deal worth is 25 percent more than it paid for the previous three-year deal that expires at the end of this season.

"The Premier League's strength is that it is an essentially English competition that has gained a huge international following. This clearly resonates with Barclays own business development and aspirations," said Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore.

"The sponsorship is a very important element of our marketing mix and provides a cost effective method to market our organisation, helping us in our ambition to be one of a handful of banks leading the global financial services industry," said Robert E. Diamond, president of Barclays.

The new sponsorship comes after Coca Cola ended their sponsorship with the Football League.
