PFA South Africa Charity Challenge 2009

Peter Nicholson and charity supporters boost Children Today Charitable Trust

Peter’s almost as fit as he was in his Bolton days!  This has given me a greater understanding of how disabled children in the UK are challenged every day of their lives.

Former Bolton Wanderers player Peter Nicholson has returned from the Drakensburg region in South Africa, where he successfully completed the PFA South Africa Challenge 2009 on behalf of Children Today Charitable Trust.

Peter led a team of charity supporters and took part in various events during the challenge, including a 60km mountain bike ride through the Golden Gate National Park, a trek to the top of the highest peak in the region Cathedral Peak, and a rafting challenge.

Peter commented: “This challenge was very rewarding but tough going at times. Each day brought something new and physically demanding, but this has given me a greater understanding of how the disabled children we are raising money for back in the UK are challenged every day of their lives.”

Proceeds from the trip raised by participants will help Children Today purchase specialised equipment for disabled children and young people. This equipment can improve independence and quality of life for a child, enabling them to achieve their potential.

A presentation is taking place at the PFA in Manchester today in recognition of the tremendous support Children Today received from the Professional Footballers’ Association in sponsoring this event. Their continued support of the charity, especially during these challenging economic times, is hugely appreciated.

At the presentation on Friday, Gordon Taylor will present the PFA International Challenge Cup to the winning team from the PFA South Africa Challenge.
