Liverpool Football Club’s future chairman has issued his backing to a 39th Premier League game abroad.
Tom Werner, co-owner of the Merseyside club after the New England Sports Ventures takeover, believes that competition of the Premier League‘s stature should be reaching further to its global audience.
Speaking to BBC Sport Werner said: "Pre-season matches are great but why not have an actual match in season.
"I think first of all the Premier League is the strongest league in the world and its reach is global.
“It's been very impressive to me, the number of people globally who watch and we hope to expand that imprint.
The idea was originally raised in 2008 but failed to materialize following criticism from many fans, clubs and FIFA.
