Wrexham FC owner prepared to sell

Wrexham Football Club chairman Ian Roberts has revealed that he would be prepared to sell the Blue Square Bet Premier club if the right owner could be found.

In a recent interview with The Daily Post Roberts said that running the club has become an ‘almost a thankless task’ for himself and fellow owner Geoff Moss and that whilst Wrexham Village, the company responsible for the football and rugby clubs as well as student accommodation, was not for sale he would accept offers for Wrexham FC.

He said: “If a Sheikh wants to come in and buy the club and take them to the Premier League then we’d be happy with that, we’ve made the offer to Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST) and other people have shown an interest but it never comes to anything.

“Nobody will come and put their head above the parapet.

“We are working on a future plan and looking to bring people in who can run things on a better footing.”

Roberts would not comment on the future of Crusaders rugby league club which is currently facing a winding up order but did add: “We’re still hopeful of playing rugby here next season and are negotiating with the Rugby Football League.”
