FA Cup Lifeline For Clubs

Football News 24/7
The 2011/12 FA Cup sponsored by Budweiser kicks-off this weekend with a total of 763 clubs participating from an original entry of 825. The Cup starts with the first ever live game on social networking website, Facebook on Friday 19th August when Ascot take on Wembley FC. This ground breaking game is one of 204 extra-preliminary matches.

The winners of the games over the weekend of the 19/20 August receive prize-money of £750 - and whilst this doesn't seem much it could be a lifeline for a small club. The First Round proper is not until November.

A Non-League club reaching the First Round proper will receive at least £12,500 which is a tidy sum for most Non-League clubs struggling to keep afloat.

The prize money available increases round on round and the brackets denote the number of teams that will receive funds. Just under £15 million will be paid out by the Football Association in prize money by the time the Final is played on May 5th 2012.
