Rayners Lane Football Club has finally received backing for floodlights which means it will not face demotion from the Uhlsport Hellenic League.
The Middlesex club’s future was at risk after planning officers had advised Harrow Council to reject the club’s request for six 15m floodlights the club needed to meet the FA’s requirements to play at Level 6 in the National League System.
But the council has now accepted the application based on a number of conditions which will allow the club to compete in the Uhlsport Hellenic League, to the relief of club secretary John Knight.
"It's fantastic news for both the football club and of course for us as well. At the end of the day a lot of football clubs are struggling at the moment and dropping down a level would have been a real kick in the teeth," said Knight.
"Fortunately technology has moved on since previous applications and it was felt that these could be installed without much disruption to anyone else around here, which is great."
Under the conditions imposed Rayners can play no more than 10 evening games each season whilst the floodlights must be off by 10pm at the club’s Tithe Sports and Social club ground.
