FA appoint Bernstein as new chairman

The Football Association has confirmed David Bernstein as its new chairman after he was approved by the FA Council.

Bernstein, a former chairman at Manchester City, had been nominated to the FA board in December last year. During a speech to the council Bernstein insisted he would listen to football fans’ view on the state of the national game.

Bernstein said: “Over the past few weeks I have been doing a lot of listening. I have met many people representing all areas of football in this country to hear their thoughts and ideas on the current issues facing the game.

“Their input has been invaluable. It has confirmed my view that The Football Association is an outstanding organisation with talented, committed people doing a huge amount of great work of which we should be justifiably proud.”

Bernstein succeeds acting chairman Roger Burden, who pulled out of the race to become the permanent chairman after claiming he could not trust FIFA following England’s unsuccessful 2018 World Cup bid.
