IFA near deal to take control of Windsor Park

The Irish Football Association is on the brink of agreeing a deal with Linfield which will see the governing body take control of Windsor Park for the next 40 years.

The stadium, which will be redeveloped din to a 20,000 seater capacity, had been under Linfield’s ownership in a 100-year deal made in 1983 which gave the club 15% of gate receipts for international matches.

But in the new proposals, the IFA will lease the stadium back to the club for its games whilst taking over the maintenance costs of the ground.

Earlier this year, the Northern Ireland Executive allocated £28m to develop the stadium.
