The Co-operative Group, based in Manchester, has announced they are to create a new role of brand director to provide a stronger brand message, to work with new marketing director, Gill Barr.
Gill Barr joined the Group from Mastercard, where she was head of marketing for UK and Ireland. She’s previously worked at John Lewis, Woolworths, Superdrug and Athena.
The marketing director has already set in motion the company’s biggest ever piece of consumer insight to determine a marketing strategy going forward.
This will involve finding out what people “love about the Co-op” and “what they love less.” she said.
The new brand director will oversee every part of the Group on a strategic level and work across all areas of marketing and brand strategy. They will work alongside another new appointment, Neil Carden, who filled another newly created role of director of insight and planning.
A spokeperson at the Co-operative Group said that no timescale had been set on appointing the brand director as Barr was “determined to get the right person for the job.”
