Betting company Betson have announced a two-year sponsorship deal with Maltese soccer club Bettson. The online gaming company's logo will appear on the Maltese champions' home and away shirts. They will replace Mare Blu, who have been the lead sponsor of the club for the past three seasons.
Erik Grohman, Betsson's commercial director, said: "Valletta are striving to retain the championship and their targets go beyond that. It's a perfect fit. We like to associate ourselves with the best and this is why we have chosen Valletta."
Valletta FC president Victor Sciriha, who suggested that the club "also sponsor the other clubs" in Malta through redistribution of gate receipts, added: "I'm sure that we will repay Betsson's faith in our club. Our aim is not only to win the domestic league, we want to progress in Europe. I believe that we will be better prepared for the Champions League next season."
The deal is only the second Bettson have signed with a soccer club after agreeing an official betting partnership with Barclays Premier League club Arsenal last month.
