Torquay can use lady luck at Shrewsbury

Torquay unearthed a lucky horseshoe while cabling work was carried out this week and have found that one was donated to United captain John Connor prior to their first game in the Football League club back in 1927.

Manager Martin Ling, the historical evidence and circumstances of the horseshoe's discovery are enough to keep the (hopefully) lucky omen inside Plainmoor he said ahead of the game at Shrewsbury.

"We've got to keep the horseshoe," said Martin. "I'm not massively superstitious but something like this can be an omen, and it is part of our heritage.

"We won't put too much emphasis on it but it does need to be displayed somewhere. We could maybe put it in a cabinet and hang it up somewhere.

"We have found some evidence that it goes back a long way and we'll take any luck that can be rubbed off for us."

Ling will be hoping that Torquay's fortune will change after three draws on the bounce.
