Oman beat favourites Uzbekistan 2-0 in a preliminary and now take on Senegal’s Teranga Lions in the qualifier at the City of Coventry Stadium on Monday, April 23 (7.45pm kick-off). The winner will become the final nation to seal their place in the 16-team tournament at London 2012.
Justine Hewitt, events manager at the City of Coventry Stadium, said they were looking forward to welcoming both teams to the venue.
“Oman and Senegal will both be keen to become the final country to qualify for the Olympic Games and it is certain to be a fascinating match,” she said.
“It will also be the first time that either nation has qualified for the Games so there is a great deal at stake.
“It would be a matter of great pride for both countries to be involved in London 2012 and they are certain to be giving their all throughout the match.
“This will be the first taste of live action in the Olympics in Coventry and we hope as many people as possible will come along to give both teams their full support.”
Tickets for the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament qualifier at the City of Coventry Stadium are available by logging on to www.theticketfactory.com/footballtournamentqualification or by telephoning 0844 338 800 and from www.ticketmaster.co.uk or by telephoning 0844 277 0700.
The game will be a test for the Olympic authorities, with Coventry being one of the Olympic venues in the summer.
In reality though it will be surprising if there is a big crowd for the match which so far has seen little publicity.
