Newcastle United will break new ground this weekend for the visit of Stoke City, becoming the first team in the Barclays Premier League to produce their official matchday programme in 3D.
The striking effect covers over 80 per cent of the programme, and the end result is an 84-page magazine packed with eye-catching images to go with a whole host of interviews and news.
Only two sporting clubs have tried this ambitious style in the past, with South Londoners Millwall and Irish rugby union giants Leinster both producing 3D programmes with great success.
Now, alongside programme producers O Publishing, the Magpies have become the first top-flight club to go down the 3D route, and they’re hoping it’ll be a big hit with the Toon Army this Saturday.
Wendy Taylor, Head of Media at Newcastle United, said: “We wanted to try something different with our programme, and with just two home games left, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to try it as a one-off.
“It’s been in production for the past couple of weeks and we’re really pleased with it. The handful of players that have seen it have been really impressed and hopefully the fans will be too.”
As well as exclusive interviews with Demba Ba and Tim Krul, plus regular columns from manager Alan Pardew and captain Fabricio Coloccini, the programme features dozens of 3D images, including some of the Club’s best goals from the season so far.
Priced at £3, the programme, complete with special 3D glasses, will be on sale in the Official Club Store at the Sports Direct Arena and around the ground ahead of Saturday’s match.
