Championship: Portsmouth set to be deducted 10 points

Football News 24/7
The Football League have confirmed they intend to dock Portsmouth 10 points when they come out of administration. That would leave the club second bottom of League1 a point ahead of Hartlepool who are on 9 points. Significantly it would leave them 12 points from safety. They currently have 20 points and sit just outside the relegation zone.

Pompey have been in administration since February and are £61m in debt.

The Pompey Supporters Trust are in the process of a takeover bid but that is conditional on administrators forcing the sale of Fratton Park.

"The Football League re-affirm its earlier decision that these conditions would include a deduction of 10 points," said the statement.

"The 10-point deduction was anticipated," spokesman Colin Farmery told BBC Radio Solent.

"I don't think that is a great, significant blow to fans. I think most of us expected that was a likely outcome.

"The key thing is we are taking a long-term view of this decision and in the long term we think this is great news for Portsmouth Football Club."
