Blackburn announce the appointment of Derek Shaw as managing director

Blackburn Rovers have appointed Derek Shaw as their new managing director.

Mr Shaw, a former Chairman at Preston North End and well-known and respected Lancashire businessman, will take up his new role with immediate effect.

"The owners let it be known they were looking for somebody who had some knowledge of the English game," the 54-year-old Shaw told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I've been involved for 20-plus years at Preston and I've seen everything. One thing led to another and now we've made the announcement."

Paul Agnew, who became general manager earlier this month, has had his role upgraded to operations director.

Shaw added that he has yet to meet personally with owners Venky's.

"I had intended flying out to Switzerland where they had some business, but unfortunately that was cancelled," said Shaw.
"I've spent hours on the telephone and long periods on video conferencing.

"I've had long discussions with Mrs Desai (of Venky's) and she wants to get things going at the club. She's backing the manager (Steve Kean).

"A lot of things haven't gone well at all in the last 18 months but I hope that, with myself and Paul's involvement, we can start improving things."

Mrs Anuradha Desai, of Rovers owners Venky's, said: "We have every confidence in Derek and believe he can play a major role in bringing about a positive change for the club.

"We are keen to build up a good image for BRFC among the fans, media and general populace and we feel sure that Derek and Paul can work in close cooperation to achieve this. It is a new start, a new era and we are very excited."
