Betting set to take off for Euro 2012

Football News 24/7
Euro 2012 is grabbing all the headlines for the wrong reasons, with the week's Panorama Programme highlighting the seedier side of football in Poland and the Ukraine.

With ticket sales to England fans below expectations those stay at home supporters look set to make this a bumper tournament for the layers.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson told us:

'We can see the interest in this competition from punters making it one of the best football events yet for us. As more and more European players become known in the Premier League punters feel more comfortable getting involved in games that don't include England.'

Meanwhile from the punters perspective Joe Ross at top betting site Footyinsider http://www.footyinsider.co.uk said:

'Fans are often accused of punting with their hearts not their heads but England seem friendless at the moment. Perhaps a positive result against Belgium on saturday will pursuade the punting public that Roy Hodgson can deliver a good tournament.

'One thing's for sure, anything can happen in the Euro's. Spain were favourites back in 2008 but Greece and Denmark have both delivered at huge odds in the last 20 years. If England do well, punters will get more involved.

'With so many betting companies out there and so many markets to bet on - our advice has always been to stick to some simple principals - that way you might actually come out winning a few bob.'
