Darlington's future relies on fans

Darlington have struggled to claw their way back up the pyramid and despite a rescue plan that will see creditors lose out they could still face further sanctions from the Football Association.

The once "league" club now in the Conference North is to be bought by fans in a restructuring that is hoped will provide a sustainable future.

The new company Darlington FC 1883 will buy the club's assets and goodwill from administrator Harvey Madden but if the deal goes through ex-chairman Raj Singh and other creditors, will lose out.

The new plan which involves moving out of the Arena stadium needs at least £200,000 before the end of June.

Other issues still to be resolved relate to wages owed to players.
