Whatever happens in the next two games, Newcastle's win at Chelsea last night has projected Mike Ashley's Magpies as true contenders for Champions League football.
Two goals from Papiss Cisse, one a wonder strike has created the irony that if Chelsea wins the Champions League final finishing fourth will not guarantee a place in the elite competition.
However the value of the club both on and off the field financially has been enhanced in a prudent manner that will put the club in a strong position to meet the Financial Fair Play regulations.
Newcastle boss, Alan Pardew, was left stunned in amazement at the second Cisse goal. He said: "An astonishing goal. Cisse took a chance. You could see he meant it and he's hit it absolutely true"
Ashley will have celebrated the goal as fan and it has to be a shrewd bit of business that has enhanced the player’s value.
