Liverpool FC have not officially made a statement about matters relating to their Director of Communications - Jen Chang although according to The Mail on Sunday, Liverpool owner Tom Werner has given him a 'private ticking off'. The story was also carried in today's Daily Telegraph and will make uncomfortable reading for the club and Chang.

The whole affair revolves around a blogger describing himself as a “perspiring football journo”, and it pretended to have inside knowledge about transfers at Anfield under the parody monicre Duncan Jenkins. According to the blog on Friday, Chang, who has only been in post since May “hired people” to uncover the true identity of the spoof account, and gathered a “dossier” on him and his family.

The blog alleged Chang told him the Merseyside club believed the Twitter account to be credible and built on information obtained from within the club. Chang was even said to have claimed Roma had thought so too, and demanded an extra £300,000 to complete the transfer of Fabio Borini after details of the negotiations were supposedly leaked.

“Chang wanted to know who Duncan’s ‘mole’ was. I told him the truth straight away, that there was no mole. He found it difficult to believe,” the blog said. “He went on to tell me that Duncan had cost the club money, specifically on the Borini deal. He told me LFC had been involved with difficult negotiations with Roma over the transfer of Borini. He claims Roma asked for absolute discretion from LFC, that if news of the proposed deal got out Roma’s fans would be unhappy about the sale of a young Italian international.”

The author of the Twitter account and blog admits to being a lifelong Liverpool supporter and insists all content was rehashed from newspaper reports previously published.

“Jenkins” uploaded to his blog on Friday what appeared to be an exchange of emails and Twitter messages between him and Chang, adding that the pair met in Manchester. He claimed that, during the meeting, “to my absolute shock Chang told me he had hired people to find me. He told me what they knew about me, about my family, about my dad’s business [he named the business] and about the work I did. It seemed clear to me that this much was in fact true - given the level of knowledge he had about me and my family.”
