Manchester City have given the classic football sticker a 21st century makeover with the launch of the City Stickers Facebook app.
Collecting and swapping football stickers has been a school yard tradition passed down through the generations, but now the City Sticker app allows fans to replace their idol’s image with their own.
All supporters need to do is upload their photo to www.mcfc.co.uk/citystickers, or take one using a webcam and superimpose their face to one of six City stars, including Mario Balotelli, David Silva and Sergio Aguero.
Even the City players have been having fun with the app, swapping their faces with their teammates to show fans how it’s done.
The launch is the latest innovation developed by City’s award-winning Marketing and Digital team.
Julian Pate, Head of Marketing for Manchester City, said: “We know fans like to get close to the players, but we thought it would be fun to take that one step further and give them the chance to become their favourite players – or at least see what they’d look like if they were. For anyone who has ever imagined or dreamt of what it would be like to be a City star, this is the app for them.”
