On a day when one of the most successful managers in England announces his retirement from the game Wayne Rooney says he wants to leave the club.
Rooney's advisors have shot themselves in the foot for their world class client as the timing can only further aggravate the fans,
Sir Alex Ferguson has been a father figure for Rooney and the multi-million pound star would have been better advised to talk to the incoming manager. If as expected David Moyes will be appointed to the hot seat any differences have to resolved on a "football" basis.
Rooney has called wolf before and if he is trying to sway the choice of manager there will be only one loser to both club and fans.
As fans said that were interviewed on sky sports "No player is bigger than the club".
