FA Cup draw not kind to likes of Salisbury and Macclesfield

eNewsletter
The FA Cup may be short on fairy tales this season as the second round draw ensures all the remaining non-league sides will face league opposition if they are to reach Round 3 - and the chance of a dream tie against a Premier League giant. That is unless, Shortwood United beat Port Vale in Monday's TV game - then they would meet Salisbury or the non-league sides that won a replay over the weekend get through at the second time of asking.

Swindon's conquerors Macclesfield will play the winners of the Gillingham and Brackley replay, while Conference South side Dover Athletic travel to MK Dons.

Conference Premier Tamworth have been rewarded for beating Cheltenham with a home tie against League One Bristol City in the second round of the FA Cup.

Stourbridge of the Southern League Premier Division go to Stevenage.

Leaders Leyton Orient are at home to Walsall in an all-League One clash, while Tranmere travel to in-form Peterborough.

Following their 2-1 victory over Bishop's Stortford, the Football League's bottom side, Northampton Town, have been drawn away at the winners of the replay between rivals Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

Conference Premier leaders Cambridge face a home tie against Sheffield United if they can overcome League Two strugglers Bury in a first-round replay, while Mansfield will face third-tier opposition in the form of either Oldham or Wolves.

Conference South side Boreham Wood or League One Carlisle will play Brentford, while Wrexham will play the winners of Oxford versus Gateshead.
