Vauxhall give grass roots side new kit with a little help from England legend Peter Shilton

Local Vauxhall retailer, Motorsales Harlow has announced their commitment to grass roots football in the area.

Motorsales Harlow will be supporting local side Bishop Stortford Rangers under 12’s Football Team this season by providing them with a brand new football kit as part of the Vauxhall Youth Football Programme

As part of Vauxhall’s wider support for Youth Football, England legend Peter Shilton OBE, handed over the brand new kit to Bishop Stortford Rangers FC at the retail outlet this week.

The 64-year-old is no stranger to grass roots football having been scouted playing for a local side in Leicester at the age of fourteen.

Shilton is celebrated as England’s most capped men’s footballer with 125 international appearances over a career spanning 30 years.

He commented; “No matter how far professionals go in the game, they all start at grassroots and Vauxhall have recognised that with their Youth Programme."

“It’s a fantastic initiative and their support for football from the grass roots up to the international team is second to none.”

Marc Phillips, Sales Manager at Motorsales Harlow said, “Having Peter here to supply Bishop Stortford FC with a brand new kit marks the starting point to an exciting partnership.”

“Vauxhall’s sponsorship of the under 12’s side highlights the importance of supporting the game from the bottom at grass roots level to the top at the International game, and showcases just how committed Vauxhall are as England team sponsor.”

“As well as providing the lads with their new kit we will have a dedicated member of our staff working closely with the team, who will give their time and ideas to support the club.”

The FA Senior National Game Development Manager, Peter Ackerley said: “The FA is working closely with its Youth Partner Vauxhall alongside Sport England to understand the issues around the significant drop off in football at this age and ensure that we address this with the appropriate football offering tailored to engage the youth audience."

“This is about looking at what our young players are telling us and providing them with options to overcome the highlighted barriers, helping transition them into creating a football habit for life.

“We have no doubt the local support of the Vauxhall retailers will make a significant positive difference to football in their local area.”
