Peaky Blinders creator and Birmingham City fan on why he won't buy the club

Birmingham City diehard, Steven Knight has made millions from his TV and film scripts, his latest huge success being Peaky Blinders. Knight has revealed that no matter how much he loves Birmingham City, he would never buy the club.

Given the fact that the club are in the relegation zone of the Championship, their former owner is in gaol for money laundering, and the club looks ripe for a takeover.

Knight set himself up by helping to create Who Wants To A Millionaire?, Steven is always asked whether he will buy his beloved Birmingham City.

Knight, who now writes for Steven Speilburg and has Holywood at his feet says there is another reason he would not get involved. He told the Birmingham Daily Mail:

“Football is a thankless task because when you do well, people still want you to do better,” Steven shrugs.

“Clubs are run too much as businesses now.

“Blues need a new owner, it’s got to change.

“It’s scandalous the way that English football clubs are available to anybody and there has to be a real test, not just ‘fit and proper’.

“People do care about their clubs. Football is important to them.

“The idea owners can just change a club’s name on a whim is scandalous.

“But there is so much money involved, how can you do anything about it?”

The revelation will be a blow to some Blues fans, and it remains to be seen if there is a Knight in shining armour preared to save the club. But it won't be Steven Knight.
