Premier League: Aston Villa confirm suspension of two backroom staff, but give no reason why

Aston Villa have suspended two members of their backroom team pending an 'internal investigation' the club confirmed on it's official website.

Assistant manager Ian Culverhouse and head of football operations Gary Karsa have been suspended by the club, with Gordon Cowans and Shay Given stepping up to assist manager Paul Lambert.

The statement by the club on their official website tried to focus more on the appointment of Cowans and Given than the suspended pair, who they only confirmed had been suspended in the final sentence.

Indeed, quotes from Paul Lambert and Shay Given also avoided mentioning the pair, with Lambert saying 'I'm delighted to have Gordon and Shay to assist me in preparing the team for Saturday which is what the whole group is focused on."

Goalkeeper Give said; "As players, it's important that each one of us take responsibility right now and i'm delighted to play my part in helping the manager and the team go and try to win on Saturday."

Villa are not yet safe from the drop in the Premier League, currently sitting four points above the relegation places, and a win this weekend will surely allay any lingering doubts about their survival.
