Premier League: Southampton suspend Italian striker Dani Osvaldo

eNewsletter

Southampton have suspended striker Dani Osvaldo for two weeks following an incident at the club's Staplewood training ground.

The Italy international, 28, is  the club's record signing being bought for around £15m  from Roma last summer.

A brief statement from the club read: "The club has taken swift and proper action for what it considers a breach of the conduct expected of its players."

Earlier this month, Osvaldo was banned for three games and fined £40,000 by the Football Association for his part in a touchline fracas in December's draw at Newcastle.

The striker has scored three goals in 13 Premier League appearances this season, but has been largely kept out of the side by in form England striker Rickie Lambert.

He will miss his side's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Yeovil as well as Premier League fixtures against Arsenal and Fulham.

Osvaldo was fined and suspended at former club Roma for punching team-mate Erik Lamela during a 2-0 defeat by Udinese.
