Stoke City's win over Aston Villa on Sunday has virtually assured the Potteries club of another year in the top flight. On the back of that the club sold more than 1,000 season-tickets on the first day of sale earlier in the week.

It's the first time the club has reached the four-figure landmark in the opening 24 hours of trading.

And it is 100 more than the previous best two years ago.

Chief executive Tony Scholes said: “Selling more than 1,000 season cards on the first day of sale is a real milestone moment for us – it certainly underlines the feel-good factor that surrounds the club at present.

“Hopefully it’s a sign that we’re heading towards a really strong season card base, which as a club we’ve always attached great importance to.”

Stoke currently have around 19,000 season-ticket holders and the club is hoping another price freeze, together with 12-month payment plans, will help boost that figure back towards the 21,000 mark of 12 months ago.

Boss Mark Hughes has already endorsed season tickets at the early bird discount prices which will remain on offer until Wednesday April 16.
