League 1 promotion chase between Preston North End and MK Dons goes to the wire

eNewsletter

In most seasons getting over 90 points would guarantee promotion from League 1, but that may not be the case this season.

The battle to see who goes up automatically alongside Champions Bristol City will go to the wire. Preston beat play-off side Swindon 3-0 in front of over 17,000 at Deepdale whilst MK Dons won a five goal thriller at Rochdale. Preston remain a point ahead and a win at Colchester next Sunday will see North End return to the Championship after a three year gap.

MK Dons have never been in the Championship and Karl Robinson's side need to beat relegated Yeovil at home on the last day and hope Preston fail to win.

Meanwhile it was confirmed that Swindon, Sheffield United and Chesterfield will be in the play-offs alongside whichever side misses out on automatic.
