The 2015/16 Premier League season will kick off earlier than usual, with the first round of fixtures scheduled for August 8.
Using social media site Twitter, the Premier League stated: "The 2015/16 #BPL season will kick off on Saturday 8 August".
It will not be the earliest start to a Premier League campaign, with that remaining the August 7 opening day of the 1999-2000 season.
The early kick off to the season will have an impact not only on the league but the England national side, as Euro 2016 follows on from the end of the season.
It could allow the national side to meet up earlier and spend more time with the management team before heading to France for the tournament.
There may also be room to ease the congestion during the very busy Christmas period, where Premier League sides face several games over the space of a couple of weeks.
