England and Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson has been bailed following his arrest on suspicion of having sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

The former Manchester City winger was arrested yesterday and questioned by Police in County Durham over the allegation, before later being bailed.

Sunderland AFC said the player had been suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation, and have refused to comment further on the arrest.

Johnson himself has not issued any statement regarding the arrest. The 27 year old joined his home town club in 2012 from Manchester City, having begun his career at Middlesbrough.
