Tottenham are showing their support for AIA's China Youth Football Development Programme by wearing special edition kits against Leicester at the weekend.
Players will wear special edition match shirts featuring the charity’s logo that will be auctioned off to raise money to help thousands of disadvantaged young people in China gain access to life-changing sporting opportunities via the Club and AIA China.
The initiative is part of the Club’s long-term partnership with AIA, and as part of the agreement two young people from Dulou village, Guangdong, who have benefited from the work of the AIA China Youth Football Development programme will be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead the teams out as mascots for Saturday’s match.
Mo Wenmin, aged 14, and Yang Huiyan, aged 11, are making their first trip out of China thanks to the initiative, having been involved in a Tottenham Hotspur coaching clinic in Guangzhou last summer with Ledley King.
Mo Wenmin, 14, said: “In my hometown, football is a very popular sport, and I sometimes watch games at school, which makes me realise the importance of team spirit."
"It has already become an important part of my life. I was delighted when I heard I was getting the chance to visit London and watch a Premier League match! It is my dream is to visit Buckingham Palace, and the thought of being able to visit Big Ben, the British Museum and taking a double-decker bus makes me quite excited. I am really looking forward to my adventure in London and I believe this will be an unforgettable experience.”
Yang Huiyan, 11, said: “I live in Dulou Village, a remote mountain village in Lianshan County, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province. My home is far away from school, so I usually live there and can only go home at weekends. My elder brother and his friends often like to play football on weekends. It is great fun for me to watch them play, so I am delighted that I can go to watch a game in London as the Premier League has the best players in the world and I want to see for myself how they are able to score such amazing goals! Among the many tourist attractions I know of in London, Tower Bridge is the one I am looking forward to seeing the most. It is said that it can be hoisted for ships to pass through and I can’t wait to see it!”
