Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child, but denied two other charges.

Appearing at Bradford Crown Court, the 28-year-old admitted one count of sexual activity with a child and one count of grooming.

The England international, who has played 12 times for his country, denies two other charges of sexual activity with a girl aged under 16.

Johnson was suspended by Sunderland following his arrest on 2 March last year but that was lifted when his bail was extended by five weeks a fortnight later.

He stayed in the team from then on, but has been limited in his appearances this season due to injury, although he did score against Liverpool as the Black Cats rescued a draw after being 2-0 down.

Johnson is accused of grooming the teenager between 30 December 2014 and 26 February 2015.

He began his professional career at Middlesbrough before a big money move to Manchester City, where he played prior to joining current club Sunderland.
