According to The Sun newspaper Manchester City boss, Manuel Pellegrini is Zenit St Petersburg’s No 1 choice when he leaves Manchester City in the Summer.
But it is understood the Chilean, 62, would prefer to stay in England or return to Spain.
It is thought Newcastle are keen on Pellegrini, with current boss Steve McClaren's future on a knife edge. Defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend could leave a vacancy at St James park before the end of the season.
Pellegrini w lifted the Capital One Cup for the second time at the weekend and whilst City lost ground in the title race they are still very much in contention for the Champions League
Pellegrini was also linked with Chelsea after announcing last month he would make way for Pep Guardiola this summer.
But The Sun reports that Blues owner Roman Abramovich is now ready to land Italy’s national team boss Antonio Conte.
Pellegrini — who has previously coached at Real Madrid, Villarreal and Malaga in Spain — has also been linked with Gary Neville’s job at Valencia.
