A crowd of 4,259 turned up for Saturday's first Hereford FC pre-season friendly 1-0 win against Vanarama Club FC United of Manchester.
It was the first home game for Bulls fans since the old club were liquidated last December.
The gate was double the average in 2013-14, their last Conference season.
But Williams warned that fans will need to keep turning up in healthy numbers if the club are to fund the cost of maintaining the ground, which is leased to them by Hereford Council.
"The stadium is a big advantage to us because it gives us an opportunity to finance the club," the chairman told BBC Hereford & Worcester.
"But it is also a big disadvantage because we have got to in some way keep it up to standard, to the standards we've set today.
Hereford FC chairman Jon Hale was also keen to pay tribute to the part that Saturday's opposition, protest club FC United of Manchester, have played in advising the Bulls.
"They've been extremely friendly and helpful to us," he said. "You saw the reaction of their fans at the final whistle. We cannot thank them enough."
The game, which also attracted 300 visiting fans was won by a second-half goal from Hereford's Nathan Hughes.
