Aitor Karanka departs from Nottingham Forest
Karanka's contract was due to roll into the Summer of 2020 having been in the position since January of 2018.
Karanka's last league game was victory against Leeds United moving the club to within 4 points of the play-off places with the club 7th in the Championship. His last game as manager was FA cup defeat to Chelsea
A club representative said Karanka "asked to be released from his contract". This outcome appeared to be on the horizon due to rumblings of a falling out over the Christmas period.
Exactly what the disagreements are about is unclear but Karanka hasn't been completely at ease with life at the Midlands club.
Many supporters will be disgruntled with the turn of events as he has plenty of backing from the fans.
This inconsistency of new managers has come to fruition once again. The last time the club managed to have a manager start and finish a season was in 2010/11.
First team coach Simon Ireland will take caretaker charge.
