Aston Villa Chief Executive suspended for social media comments

Keith Wyness, the Chief Executive of Aston Villa, has been suspended for three weeks from all football-related matters.

Wyness has received the suspension following abuse of social media. He re-tweeted a video of Aston Villa being denied a penalty with a caption asking if referees had "disabilities". The incident followed their 1-1 draw with Brighton.

He admitted a Football Association charge that the comment was "abusive and/or insulting and/or improper".

Wyness deleted the retweet following the match in May and has told the Birmingham Mail he was "both surprised and disappointed at the severity of the punishment" for what he described as an "honest mistake".
