'Bring back the Messiah' says Sondico as they park picture of former Manchester United boss David Moyes outside Old Trafford
United made it three games without a win this season when they were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by League One outfit MK Dons in the Capital One Cup second round.
It was the first time in nearly 20 years they have had to play at this stage of the tournament, when they were also beaten 3-0 by lower opposition York City.
And Sondico, who supply the kits for the Dons, decided to rub salt in the wounds of United and their fans by sarcastically calling for the reinstatement of former United manager David Moyes.
Moyes was sacked after less than a year in charge in April, and the billboard, with a picture of Moyes, reads 'Bring back the Messiah', a reference to a similar banner that was put up by fans inside Old Trafford when Moyes was appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor.
The other side of the billboard shows the Dons' Arsenal loanee Benik Afobe, who came off the bench to bag a brace on Tuesday, with the caption reading 'You've been Don!"
The humiliating defeat came on the same day the smashed the British transfer record fee when they paid just shy of £60m for Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Dave Newbury, head of brand marketing for Sondico said: “We’re really proud of the MK Dons lads. It was an unbelievable result so we thought we’d help the players and fans extend the celebrations to Old Trafford."
"Man Utd are a great club and they’ll no doubt bounce back but MK Dons have pulled off a giant killing so I’m sure they won’t begrudge us a bit of fun at their expense. We wish MK Dons the best of luck in the third round.”
