Whelan was fined £50,000 after remarks he made relating to Chinese and Jewish people in an interview he gave defending the appointment of manager Malky Mackay. Whelan was also banned from all football activity for six weeks.

Mackay, whose previous employers were Cardiff, was sacked by the club when they were in the Premier League last season.

It later emerged that Mackay was under investigation from the FA over a series of texts that were allegedly sexist, homphobic, racist and anti-Semitic in nature, whilst he was at the Welsh club.

Whilst Mackay has apologised for sending 'offensive' messages he has denied being racist, sexist, homphobic or anti-Semitic.

But the Sky Blues owner has told members of his board who were planning on attending the game this evening not to go in protest of the actions of the manager and owner.
