Sports Revolution, the sports media and digital marketing agency, has teamed up with the leading online betting company, Unibet, as official betting partner for its stadium wi-fi service, StadiumLIVE.
Celtic Football Club, which became the UK’s first fully wi-fi enabled football ground when it installed StadiumLIVE in September 2013, is scoring another first by combining its stadium wi-fi with in-play betting.
Sports Revolution, which developed the award-winning CelticLIVE fan app and high-density wi-fi system at Celtic Park, has partnered with Unibet to allow fans to bet from their smartphones while watching the game.
Unibet will offer a wide range of odds to fans logged onto CelticLIVE, including in-play odds linked to live events as they unfold, such as penalties, cautions, next scorer and result predictions.
Over the past year, CelticLIVE has been a hit with fans, downloaded over 50,000 times and over 155,000 fans registering to the stadium wi-fi.
Over 79,000 videos have been played through the app and shared content on social media has allowed #celticlive to reach 4.7m fans via Twitter. CelticLIVE enhances fans match-day experience with live by-the-minute stats during games, photo and video content, commentary and man-of-the-match voting.
Access to betting sites via Celtic Park’s stadium wi-fi has been blocked so far, but will now be possible with Unibet. Sports Revolution has seen strong demand from fans to use the CelticLIVE app for betting, reflecting the rapid growth in mobile betting platforms.
Live for use by fans at this weekend’s top of the table clash with Dundee, Unibet is offering over 100 ways to bet on every Celtic game, plus in-play cash-in and live streaming on thousands of other sporting events.
Awareness of the launch has already been heightened by Unibet advertising their arrival on CelticLIVE using Sports Revolution’s pitchside LED and concourse TV system at Celtic Park.
Simon Hills, Commercial Director, Sports Revolution, says: “Stadium wi-fi has huge potential for commercial partners to offer services that enhance the matchday experience for fans. Betting is a perfect fit, especially as in-play odds complement the real-time content we are serving fans through the app."
"We know that many fans want to use the wi-fi for betting, and now they can. Unibet is an ideal partner, working closely with us and Celtic FC to integrate it smoothly into the successful CelticLIVE application.”
Ed Nicholson, Head of Unibet’s UK Marketing Operations, adds: “We are excited by the potential of stadium wi-fi for matchday betting, allowing us to add a new dimension for fans. We are one of the UK’s fastest growing betting sites and we want to be ahead of the game in the technology we use."
"Live betting is the future of online sports betting , and stadium wi-fi is a perfect way to fuel that demand and for us to make a mark. It’s new, it’s different and it adds real value for the fans.We expect it to take off with other clubs and wanted to get in early with this first application at the UK’s first fully connected stadium, Celtic Park.”
Unibet, which operates in over 100 countries, re-launched into the UK market in 2013. As well as the relationship with CelticLIVE, in-stadium betting partnerships with 12 Premier League and Championship football clubs, including ManchesterCity, Liverpool and Everton, Unibet is also official sponsor of the Unibet Masters Darts Championships, which took place in Edinburgh on 1-2 November.
