Promotion chasing Derby County have confirmed the appointment of  Harry Redknapp in a football advisory role until the end of the season.

Speaking on the club's official website, Chairman Mel Morris said: “It is excellent news that Harry has agreed to join us. His experience spans over several decades and he is one of the most knowledgeable and informed figures in the game.

“When I spoke with Harry about the possibility of helping out on a short-term basis, it was evident from the start that he was excited at the prospect of joining us. I am sure he willperfectly complement Darren and the rest of our staff.”

Speaking on his new appointment, Redknapp said: “From the first conversation I had with the Chairman it was clear he has exciting plans for the football club. I am delighted to be able to help out and am looking forward to working with Darren and his team.”

Head Coach Darren Wassall commented: “This is a great opportunity for me and the rest of the coaches to work with somebody of Harry’s experience for the remainder of the season.”

Wassall was placed in charge following the sacking of Paul Clement earlier in the season, but Derby's recent form has been indifferent, winning on three of their last ten games.

They are now seven points below the automatic promotion places, and thirteen behind leaders Burnley, and they are now only three points ahead of Cardiff and Ipswich, who are just outside the play-off places.
