Championship: Fulham set to appoint Reading manager Steve Clarke

Reading boss Steve Clarke looks set to be appointed as the new head coach at Fulham, following discussions with the club.

Fulham have been searching for a new manager since they sacked Kit Symons before the international break.

Former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson was reportedly being considered, and incidentally is now being touted as the favourite to take over at Reading now Clarke is set to leave.

Clarke has been at the Madejski Stadium for 11 months after a previous spell as manager of West Brom.

He will leave the Royals four points ahead of Fulham in the Championship table, and have been as high as second this season.

Clarke was due to speak at his weekly press conference on Thursday morning, but Reading have announced it has been postponed until Friday morning.

Fulham, like so many clubs in the second tier, are gunning for a return to the Premier League, having been relegated in 2014, with three different managers taking charge of the club during their last season in the top flight.

If they are to break into the top six and challenge for promotion they will be looking for Clarke to eradicate the inconsistencies of their season so far.
