Chesterfield relegated to League 2

Chesterfield have been relegated to League 2 after losing 3-1 to Scunthorpe on Monday.

Chesterfield beat Port Vale on Friday to keep their survival hopes going for a match longer but it wasn't enough to prevent relegation to the bottom tier.

The club were promoted to League 1 in 2014 after winning League 2 and the next season they finished 6th but lost to Preston in the play offs.

Manager, Gary Caldwell, who was appointed in January said "next summer there has to be a massive rebuild of this football club and we have to come back stronger for it.”
