Confusion over the Carabao Cup draw for the 2nd round in a row
Clubs were left consused as to whether they were home or away after some of the first draws were announced the wrong way round.
With the draw split into north and south and then each section split into seeded and non-seeded sides who was at home needed to be established. Before the draw it was announce that red meant the seeded team would be home and white was that the seeded team was away. However, once the draw started the ties involving seeded sides Crystal Palace, Watford and Norwich City were initially read out as away despite being drawn with a red ball and Brentford, who were drawn out with a white ball, were announced as home.
Once the draw had settled down League One side Blackburn host Premier League rivals Burnley in a Lancashire derby. Last season's losing finalists Southampton will host Championship club Wolves in the EFL Cup second round after Thursday's confusing live draw.
The second-round ties will be played in the week commencing Monday, 21 August.
The seven Premier League teams involved in European competition will enter at round three.
West Ham and Newport County were guaranteed away games regardless of how they were drawn, owing to being unable to play at their home grounds. West Ham, whose London Stadium home is being used for the World Athletics Championships, will visit League Two team Cheltenham, while Newport, whose pitch is being relaid, will travel to Leeds.
Confusion also reigned in the first-round draw in June, which was streamed live from Bangkok, as Charlton were included twice on a graphic listing the fixtures, while AFC Wimbledon were also wrongly recorded as being at home to Swindon in that round. The EFL will be hoping that the 3rd round draw, which they recently announced will take place in China, will pass without incident.
