EFL Cup could feature video assistants next season

The EFL Cup could be the first competition to trial video assistants in England from next season.

The Football Association have already said video assistants could be trialled in the FA Cup from next season's third round. However, the EFL now say that could begin in the EFL Cup first round.

Shaun Harvey, the Chief Executive at the EFL said "The board will consider allowing the EFL Cup to be utilised."

The technology is currently being trialled worldwide and FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, is keen for the system to be in place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Any technology would only be applied to key incidents such as goals, red cards, mistaken identities and penalties.
