Manchester United's 18-year-old striker Marcus Rashford, who scored on his international debut, made Roy Hodgson's 23. There was no place in the squad for Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater as the England boss goes with five strikers.

Some pundits thought Everton's Ross Barkley might have been the unlucky one but it was Drinkwater and Andros Townsend who missed out.
