Euro 2025 Final the Most Watched TV Event of the Year

More than 16 million viewers in the UK watched England secure a dramatic victory over Spain in the Euro 2025 final, making it the most-watched TV event of the year so far.

According to figures released by the BBC, the match reached a combined peak of 12.2 million viewers on BBC One and an additional 4.2 million on ITV1, as fans witnessed the Lionesses lift the trophy for a second successive tournament following a penalty shootout win after a 1-1 draw in extra time.

An average of 12 million viewers followed the match across both platforms, with ITV commanding a 25% share of the TV audience during the final. Their biggest numbers of the tournament came during England’s semi-final clash with Italy, which peaked at 10.2 million viewers.

Though the peak figure was slightly lower than the 17.4 million who watched the 2022 final on BBC One alone, this year’s dual broadcast across BBC and ITV split the audience share.

The BBC also recorded a significant rise in digital and audio engagement, with over 1.1 million listeners tuning into live commentary on BBC Sounds, Radio 5 Live, and 5 Sports Extra—a 122% increase on Euro 2022. Additionally, 10.1 million signed-in accounts accessed tournament content across BBC’s digital platforms, up 15% from the previous edition.

On social media, the BBC amassed 231 million views, with TikTok alone accounting for over 100 million, highlighting the tournament's growing impact across younger and digital-savvy audiences.
