Everton disability team benefit from sponsorship

An Everton in the Community Disability team is now £1,500 better off courtesy of a 12-month sponsorship package - said the Liverpool Echo.
The Club’s official charity’s Medicash Powered Wheelchair football team – who this season is competing in their first ever National League campaign – agreed the deal with the James Greenop Foundation in late 2014.

This will allow for more funds for training and equipment for the side, which also competes in the North West Powered Wheelchair League at Liverpool’s Greenbank Sports Academy.

From its early origins of an after schools’ club in Liverpool’s Sandfield Park, to being founder members of the League in 2009, the Powered Wheelchair team has been in existence since 2007 and has accommodated almost 40 players since its inception.

The initiative forms part of one of the largest and most respected disability football programme in the world, with dozens of football opportunities for disabled children and adults delivered each year.

“ There are eight Trustees within the Foundation and this wasn’t a difficult decision to make,” said the charity’s founder and Everton in the Community volunteer, Russell Greenop. “Having had the privilege of working with Everton in the Community and seeing all the fantastic work it does and the amount of people it helps on a daily basis, why wouldn’t you want to help.”

Formed in the aftermath of the tragic death of Russell’s son James, who was killed in a traffic accident on 22 October 2013, the Foundation has embraced the mantra that everyone has the potential to achieve their dreams.

By providing small grants and financial assistance, the charity aims to help raise aspirations through education, employment and training. Its primary mission is to support and empower local children, young adults and families who are experiencing difficulties and disadvantages that prevent them from achieving their full potential as active citizens, and valued members of society.
