Evo-Stik League side Grantham Town ahead of the game

Lincolnshire County Council were forced to issue a statement saying it is not sponsoring Evo-Stik League side Grantham Town Football Club despite an announcement made by the club in a press release and on its website.

The announcement said the club had secured a main sponsorship deal with Public Health Lincolnshire County Council, but the council says no sponsorship has been agreed although the club and council may work together on health issues in the future.

A county council statement said: “The story that appeared on the Grantham Town Football Club website and in The Grantham Journal on Friday, August 29, 2014 was incorrect and Lincolnshire County Council has no plans to sponsor the club. The council’s Public Health team and the club are, however, in discussions about working together to promote healthier lifestyles and physical activity. While potentially a good opportunity to encourage fitness and wellbeing in the community, this work is still in the early stages and a formal agreement is yet to be reached.”

the club have yet to respond to seemingly jumping the gun.
